See the highlights from the first US drone racing championships

One of the world’s latest sports has its very first champion. The winner of the inaugural United States national drone racing champion was crowned at the California State Fair in Sacramento on July 17. It was a United States competitors, the nationals were won by an Australian, Chad Nowak. That’s ok.

Although there weren’t many fans in the stands– to be fair, it was over 100 degrees during the majority of the two-day occasion– organizer Scott Refsland stated over 1,000 people tuned in to the livestream at any offered point, with fans tuning in from over 126 countries. And he anticipates larger crowds next time round as the sport grows.

Nowak appeared more interested in socializing with his drone racing friends than legions of fans, informing Quartz: “It was simply a bunch of geeks having a good time.”.
